The North York Moors National Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty which, as well as containing the largest expanse of heather moorland in England, boasts the Heritage Coast and the highest cliffs in the country. We are in a perfect position, just 8 miles from the sea, from which to explore this area.
Red House Farm is located in Glaisdale Dale, just 400 metres from the village of Glaisdale, and consists of a group of traditional farm buildings dating from the mid 17th century. Listed by English Heritage as being of architectural interest, it is featured in Houses of the North York Moors, a book published by the Royal Commission on the historical monuments of England.
The farmhouse has been renovated to a very high standard and while all traditional features have been retained, central heating has been installed and is controllable in each room, a bathroom has been added to each bedroom along with amenities such as colour TV and tea-making equipment. |
 | The Old Sheaf Store, The Threshing Barn and the new studio Hayloft have been converted to form accommodation for self-catering or extra bed &breakfast. We have tried to maintain the 'feel' of a barn while adding all the luxuries of modern living, forexample, central heating (although we still added a wood stove), dishwashers, microwaves, etc. Wewere pleased to featureon the opening pages of English Country Cottage 2004 Brochure, as well as the 'July' picture of their 1999 Calendar, and in ECC's 2008 brochure a full page photo of Red House Farm introduces the Yorkshire and Northumbria section.

Guests have the use of a billiards room in another of the old barns, which also contains a TV and radio plus a selection of books of walks/tours of the area. The games room is very much an adult area where under 16's are not permitted unless strictly supervised. There is ample off-road parking and grounds of around one acre, with well-established gardens and many sitting areas - in the herb garden, around our semi-wild pond and, for the Old Sheaf Store, Hayloft and Threshing Barn, on patios, outside the cottages.
We have hens, ducks, geese and ponies running around, and a few cattle which include Old English Longhorns, but no tractors and no modern farm buildings - being only a small holding of some 12 acres.
There is excellent walking from the doorstep- a bridleway which is part of a walk featured in several books runs through our yard. Wainright's Coast-to-Coast passes within ¼ mile of the farm, as does the Esk Valley Walk. The Heritage Coast Walk is only a short journey away.
We have been running Red House as a Bed and Breakfast since about 1991 when we returned to the UK from work abroad and decided on a change of lifestyle. We hope to offer a warm and personal welcome to this area and our home. |

Ordnance Survey Grid Ref NZ 771049
For those in vehicles From the north take the A171 and follow the signs to Glaisdale or from the south take the A169 and follow the signs for Grosmont, Egton, then Glaisdale. On entering Glaisdale, drive through the village until you reach the crossroads at the War memorial. Then follow the road signposted Glaisdale Dale only. Pass the church and drive along the dale until you pass a large house with three double garage doors on your left (The Cottage). After a further 100 yards, you will pass Broom Cottage also on left and immediately after, opposite the yellow lines of the school drive, a cattle grid which brings you into our yard. A sign outside says Red House Farm.
If walking on Coast-to-Coast Walk through five bar gate coming off Glaisdale Rigg moor track above Red House, and continue towards Glaisdale village a few metres until bridleway crosses track. Take bridleway gate to right and go south across field (no defined path through field, but school chimney will appear as you start downhill). Follow stone wall towards school, then go through field gate and take an immediate left towards school. Carry on down path, take a right down school drive, cross the dale road and over the cattle grid to Red House. If purists, go into village and then follow vehicle directions - good luck on the walk! |
