A charming Cotswold stone house built in the 'arts and crafts' tradition, Poppy Bank is the home of June and Eric Britton. It is set in tranquil countryside, looking out over rolling wooded hills and open fields - a classic north Cotswold setting in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Cross the road and a path takes you directly onto the Cotswold Way, one of Britain's best-loved long-distance footpaths. Stroll into the village and enjoy what has been described as 'the finest high street in England' with restaurants, antique shops - and some fantastic pubs!

Poppy Bank is also an ideal base for exploring further afield - perfectly located for touring the Cotswolds villages of Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and the Slaughters, and for visiting Shakespeare country, Warwick Castle and Blenheim Palace.

How to Find Us

Take the B4081 sign-posted Mickleton, Evesham and Broadway, out of Chipping Campden. Past first turning on left Back Ends, keep going straight along main road, slow down and indicate to the right as you approach Grevel Lane on your left.

There are two spacious double bedrooms, both with en-suite facilities. The rooms are tastefully decorated, bright and well furnished with comfortable seating and pretty views over open countryside. Breakfast is served in a cosy Dining Room, and the house has good-sized gardens front and rear with a patio area for guests.

Exploring the Cotswolds

So much to see, so little time! Two or three nights at Poppy Bank will give you the opportunity to visit some of the most popular places in the north Cotswolds, Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick. Visitors staying a little longer frequently visit Blenheim Palace, Oxford, Bath and the Welsh Borders.

Within half a mile
Chipping Campden. Probably the best preserved of all Cotswolds wool towns with some interesting shops, plenty of Inns and Restaurants. The start of the Cotswold Way. Call at the Tourist Information Centre for a town map showing principal historic buildings.

Within 2 miles
Cotswolds country walks. Many local walks in the beautiful countryside around Chipping Campden. You are welcome to borrow an Ordnance Survey map and follow one of the many recommended trails. Bike hire is available locally from Cotswold Country Cycles.

Hidcote Manor Gardens (National Trust) near Chipping Campden. Renowned gardens well worth a visit for all gardening enthusiasts. Series of small gardens surrounded by magnificent hedging incorporating pools, mellow brick gazebos and wrought iron work. Check Opening times. (Closed in winter months).

Kiftsgate Gardens. Private Gardens close to Hidcote. Restricted opening.

Parish church of St Lawrence, Mickleton. Fine 14th century tower and spire, 17th century porch and, within, a 12th century crucifix over the north aisle altar.

Dover's Hill (National Trust). Free access to conservation area with scenic views.

Within 5 miles
Broad Campden. A charming and traditional Cotswold hamlet
The Barn Antiques, Long Marston (just off the Stratford Road). Another larger antiques centre stocking wide variety of cheaper antiques. Gift shop and coffee shop.

The Fleece Inn, Bretforton. An old village pub preserved by the National Trust. Fascinating insight into 18th century social life.

Broadway. Another well known Cotswold town with good variety of gift shops and better quality antiques.

Batsford Arboretum and Gardens. On Moreton-in-Marsh road. Britain's favourite arboretum. 55 acres of magical walks in a Japanese setting. Garden centre and coffee shop.

Snowshill Manor & Gardens (N.T.) preserved to show way of life in early 20th century. Also delightful village. Most interesting to visit.

Within 10 Miles
Stratford-upon-Avon (15 minute drive) Take the bus tour to visit all the Shakespeare Houses. Lots more, e.g. Butterfly Farm, Teddy Bear Museum, river boats, Tourists Information Centre, Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Compton Verney An award winning art gallery in Warwickshire. It offers a unique opportunity to view art in the setting of a Grade 1 listed Robert Adam mansion located in 120 acres of spectacular parkland. Compton Verney houses six permanent collections and has a programme of temporary exhibitions and events.

Bourton-on-the-Water straddles the river Windrush with its series of elegant low bridges beside neat tree-shaded greens and tidy stone banks. Bourton-on-the-Water has been described as the 'Little Venice' of the Cotswolds and is one of the most popular tourist spots in the region being serviced by the many shops, cafe's, and attractions - including Birdland, Model Village and model railway exhibition.

Warwick Castle (10 minute drive from Stratford)

Sudeley Castle (10 minute drive from Broadway)

Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, near Oxford

Upton House and Gardens (NT) - Outstanding art collections in a 17th-century mansion, with superb terraced gardens.
