Mary Queen of Scots House, Queen Street
A visitor centre portrays the story of the Queen's poignant life, with one of the most striking items on display, her death mask, said to have been taken from her decapitated body at Fotheringay Castle. Open Easter to mid November, daily. Admission charge. Tel: 01835 863331

Jedburgh Castle Jail, Castlegate
The only remaining example left in Scotland of a Howard Reform prison, with displays of prison life and the history of the town. Open Easter to September, daily. Admission charge. Tel: 01835 863254
