| History Dates back to the reign of Edward II (1307-1327) when just 1/2 acre of land was conveyed to Nicholas Scawen and Lady Matilda. We are led to believe that Liscawn means 'House at the head of the valley of the Elder Tree'. In approximately 1461, the Smythe family moved in an over their three centuries of residence here, at some point increased the acreage and developed the duilding into a farm house. In later years it changed ownership many times but remained a farmhouse until the 1950s when it was converted into a private club, then a guest house, and finally, a public house and hotel. We are the present proprietors, Paul and Fiona Ingall. We moved here in 1995 and have been constantly improving the very neglected premises and business in a gradual improvement plan. Dependant on the constraints of time, money and effort! In the year 2000, we built and converted a redundant barn into beautiful en suite bedrooms and self-catering suites. We have many more ideas in the pipeline from your new menu ideas to major structural plans. |
