Lairbeck is one of the few Victorian Country House Hotels to the found in the Lake District. Set in an acre of secluded grounds, in a quiet location just ten minutes' walk from Keswick town centre, the hotel enjoys magnificent views of Skiddaw (3,054') and many of the fells surrounding the shores of Derwentwater.
Built in 1875 of traditional Lakeland stone, Lairbeck was the family home of Scottish-born barrister and local dignitary, James Reddie Anderson. As a keen traveller, J. R. Anderson was an ardent collector of rare books and paintings - many of which once adorned the walls at Lairbeck - and became a lifelong friend of the respected poet and art critic, John Ruskin. |

In recent years, many features of the original house have been lovingly restored, such as the magnificent barley-twist staircase and galleried landing, which give the entrance hall its prestigious feel and a warmth that's as timeless as the grandfather clock.
On the landing is a collection of old photographs donated by the Anderson family, evoking images and memories of Lairbeck in years gone by. |
 | As soon as you enter the Main Hall you will sense the gentle, family atmosphere of one of Keswick's finest Victorian country houses. |
| Most of our bedrooms have superb mountain views or overlook the hotel grounds. All have either a bathroom or shower-room en suite and have been individually decorated to make the most of their charm and character. In keeping with Lairbeck's origins each room has kept the name given to it by the Anderson family, such as The Skiddaw Room, The School Room and The Housekeeper's Room. |

| For that extra touch of luxury we also offer two superior room: Gran's Room, with its option of king size or twin beds, has the largest bathroom and a separate shower. |
| The Drawing Room, with its period furniture has a king-size bed and a balcony with views looking onto the garden and towards the distant fells. | |
 | Our selection of fourteen bedrooms includes two ground floor rooms, four single rooms and one family room. Whichever room you choose, you will experience the highest standards of housekeeping. |
The Dining Room, with its ornate, period plaster leaf cornices, crystal chandelier and magnificent Victorian sideboard, looks out onto a charming, secluded garden. At breakfast and at dinner, you will experience the highest standards of food, for which Lairbeck has built an excellent reputation. Our Dining Awards reflect the care we take in the selection, preperation and serving of every meal, using fresh, local produce wherever possible.
Dinner menus are changed daily and can be tailored to individual needs. These are complemented by a list of sensibly priced, good quality wines and a wide choice of drinks from the bar. |

In the comfort of the Main Hall or the Lounge Bar you can reflect upon the events of the day, make plans for tomorrow or simply relax and absorb the quiet atmosphere of the house.
An unusual feature of the Lounge is the window over the marble fireplace. On cooler evenings, the glowing log fire adds its own comforting warmth.
Hospitality, comfort and relaxation are all vital ingredients of the 'Lairbeck experience'. Many of our guests return to us time and time again knowing that the genuine warm welcome they receive continues throughout their stay. |

Lairbeck is ideally located on the edge of Keswick. Known as "The Heart of the Lake District", Keswick makes an excellent base for anyone wishing to explore the treasures and delights of Lakeland. With breathtaking scenery throughout every season, the Lake District is Britain's finest National Park.
Standing between Skiddaw and Derwentwater on the River Greta, Keswick is a market town with intriguing narrow streets and Lakeland stone buildings. Dominating its Market Place is a famous landmark, the Moot Hall, built in 1813.
Keswick hosts several annual events, including an international Jazz Festival - and boasts one of the country's finest theatres, the Theatre by the Lake. In the grounds of Fitz Park stands the Museum, which houses original manuscripts by William Wordsworth and Robert Southey.
Not far from Keswick are many attractions such as Rheged Discovery Centre, Castlerigg Stone Circle and the historic houses and gardens of Mirehouse, Dalemain and Brantwood. For golf enthusiasts, Keswick, Cockermouth and Penrith all have 18-hole courses. A little further afield you may wish to visit Hadrian's Wall, Carlisle Castle, Wordsworth's homes at Rydal and Grasmere and John Ruskin's home at Brantwood.
Keswick is conveniently situated for some of Lakeland's best known fells, including Blencathra and England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike. Also nearby are the Lakes of Thirlmere, Bassenthwaite, Buttermere and Ullswater.
Lairbeck is located just off the A66, 18 miles from Penrith (Junction 40 on the M6). The nearest railway station is Penrith, with a regular bus service to Keswick. |
