THE LOCAL AREA

Pleasantly situated in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, on the Duke of Devonshire's Bolton Abbey Estate, with breath-taking views of surely the finest scenery in Wharfdale.

Our family-run park is an ideal centre from which to explore and enjoy the Dales whether by car or on foot. There are many lovely walks for both the casual walker and the experienced rambler by the riverside or over the fells. A walk up "Simons" Seat and the Valley of Desolation is a must during your stay.

Howgill Lodge, Skipton, View over Valley and River

Skipton is our local town, only 8 miles away. An agricultural market town with a castle, museum, canal cruises, market stalls on most days and a park with a swimming pool, tennis court and 'pitch and putt'.

Bolton Abbey is 3 miles away. Famous for the Abbey itself and beautiful riverside walks leading to 'The Strid' and woods with nature trails, which have received several environmental awards.

Grassington, 6 miles away, is a large Dales village with interesting little shops and a cobbled square.

To make your stay extra special, treat yourself to a meal at one of our excellent local award winning restaurants or a pub meal at one of our local hostelries.

Delightful little villages such as Appletreewick, Burnsall, Thorpe, Linton, Kettlewell and Arncliffe are all close by. There is a Dales Railway with steam trains at nearby Embsay. During the summer there are many country events such as sports, agricultural shows and fairs.

TOURING CARAVANS AND TENTS

Our small select park which has recently been granted the David Bellamy Conservation award offers you a modern toilet block, hot showers, laundry room, washing up sinks and a small well-stocked shop with daily supplies of milk and provisions.

Electricity is available for touring caravans. Most pitches are hard standing. The Park has been carefully terraced to give everyone a share of our magnificent view. Only the most responsible dog owners are welcome. Cleanliness is the No.1 priority at Howgill Lodge.
