Hernes, Reading, Front of HouseSet in the heart of the Thames Valley and the Chilterns, Hernes is best reached by motor car (though a branch railway line serves the town and there is a bus service from Reading). It is west of Henley, 8 miles north of Reading (where there is a main line railway station). 8 and 12 miles south of Marlow and High Wycombe respectively, 20 miles east of Oxford and ideally placed for arrivals and departures from Heathrow Airport.

Hernes is a fascinating house thattwists and turns through the ages - a little Elizabethan here, someGeorgian there, and a touch of Victorian and Edwardian for good measure. The same family has lived here for five generations. From the panelled hall with its open fire and pianoyou ramble into the heart of the house. The bedrooms are spacious and welcoming (especially the four poster) and the bathrooms are lovingly equipped. It is a much loved and cherished family home where tradition is treated with respect, particularly the Sunday breakfast of porridge, kedgeree and boiled eggs. Hernes, Reading, Fireplace
