Greenwell's location overlooks a beautiful range of hills the North Pennines which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. We are situated between the villages of Wolsingham and Tow Law on a 300-acre traditional Dales mixed farm. We have our own Nature Trail and Conservation areas with opportunities for bird watching and seeing a variety of wildlife, particularly our owls.
There are many things to and see in this wonderful part of the country.

The Barn, Bed & Breakfast
A friendly welcome awaits you throughout the year in this 18th century barn with its stone roof, and converted Gin Gan, which takes up to 13 guests and still retains former character. Bedrooms with tea/coffee making facilities are traditionally furnished. Three double, one triple and two twin rooms all with en-suite bathrooms. Dining room, separate lounge and payphone. There are excellent views of surrounding hills and countryside.
When preparing meals our home-grown fruit, vegetables and naturally reared meats are used whenever possible. If you wish to make a booking £10.00 per person per night is required. Arrival time is after 4pm, unless you have previously contacted to arrange an earlier time.

Self Catering
The Barn can be let as a whole or divided into very special holiday cottages.

The Granary
This has 3 double bedrooms downstairs and a 4th double bedroom upstairs where all is antique furnished with a 17th century court cupboard in the lounge/dining room, and a very well equipped kitchen to one end.

The Gin Gan
This has two bedrooms sleeping 5 people, a twin room and a triple room, double and single bed. The living area for this cottage is a most unusual being 22 feet in diameter. Again the kitchen is modern and well equipped. This room is also used for conferences of up to 20 people.

We are ideally located for the numerous scenic and historical sites of Northumbria. Less than half an hours drive from Raby Castle, Bowes Museum, High Force, Killhope Wheel, Beamish Open Air Museum, Durham City and Barnard Castle.
We are within easy driving distance for Hadrians Roman Wall, Hexham, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Holy Island, Keilder Water and Forest, Alston and the Lake District.

What to do!
Pony trekking and Fishing can be booked prior to your holiday. Riding on the high fells or through gentler terrain along forest paths. Fishing on the River Wear, Tunstall Reservoir and Witton Lakes or you can fish in our own stream.
The surrounding countryside is a delight for walkers and cyclists you can try Durham's disused railway tracks which cover many miles we can provide routes and bikes can be hired locally.
Golf, circuit training, swimming and many more sports are all available locally with excellent facilities. Sports to watch County Cricket, Racing at Newcastle, Hexham and Sedgefield. Ice Hockey and Athletics at Gateshead. Autumn country shows where you can see fell running, show jumping, and sheep dog trials.
Eating out, there are many country pubs to choose from in the villages along the valley.

How to find us!

Coming from Tow Law take the Wolsingham Road B6297 at the War Memorial, after 1 ½ miles turn left and then right.
From Wolsingham take B6296 to top of hill (1½ miles) and turn right. After ½ mile turn right, after ¼ mile turn right again.
