| The delightful village of Parkend is set right in the heart of the Royal Forest of Dean, and is located within the boundaries of the Cannop Valley Nature Reserve. The area has a wealth of history and was once a centre for the iron ore mining and smelting industry. Now peaceful, the village makes an ideal location for touring the surrounding area or for exploring one of the many peaceful forest walks. Tennis, golf, fishing, canoeing, clay pigeon shooting, horse riding, cinemas and much more, are all available locally and our staff will be happy to advise you. |
 | Take a trip back in time at the Fountain Inn. Built over two hundred years ago to serve the local mining community, it was extended to provide refreshment and accommodation for passengers, when the Severn and Wye Railway reached the village in 1868. The railway has survived just, and is currently in a state of restoration, but the hospitality and family atmosphere offered by the pub has not only survived - it is alive and thriving. |

| Bordered to the west by the River Wye, and to the east by the Severn, the Royal Forest of Dean is one of Englands foremost wooded areas, comprising over 23,000 acres and around 20 million trees. Once famous for its huge oaks, used for almost all British Navy ships at the time of the Armada, it now boasts numerous walks and breathtaking scenery. The area steeped in history, with castles at Chepstow, Goodrich and St Briavels, all within 12 miles. There are museums at Soudley (7 miles), Ross-on-Wye (18 miles) and Gloucester (19 miles), and famous churches at Gloucester and Tintern (10 miles). Further afield, why not make it a day out, and visit Bristol (25 miles), Cheltenham (28 miles) or Hereford (29 miles). |

| Welcome to The Fountain Lodge In addition to our quality en-suite accommodation in the Inn, we also provide group accommodation in the adjoining Fountain Lodge. Once the village bake-house, the Fountain Lodge has found new life after recently being renovated to provide good quality hostel accommodation at affordable prices. The lodge is available for groups of 9 to 32 people, and we welcome school parties, clubs, families, or just organised groups of friends looking for a budget holiday, without having to resort to poor quality accommodation. Full-size bunk beds are provided in dormitories accommodating 2,4,5,9 and 12 people. If required, prior arrangements can also be made to accommodate two, less able, guests at the Fountain Inn. Mattresses and pillows are provided, but sleeping bags and towels should be brought with you. Alternatively "bed-kits" can be rented for a small fee. Downstairs are full self-catering facilities, including utensils, microwaves, fridges, freezers and stoves. Adjoining this is a dining area and lounge, with television. A large barbecue and outdoor seating area are also available. Alternatively meals, including breakfast, are available from the Fountain Inn. Central heating and double-glazing throughout makes this an ideal base any time of year. The price per person, per night, is £11.00 and, unlike many hostels, the cost is fully inclusive; there are no electricity meters and showers are free. Please that exclusive use of the hostel cannot be guaranteed for groups of less than 22 people. |
