The Cross Keys is in the centre of town opposite the church of St Peters and St Paul.

For those guests needing a more relaxed holiday there is very good course fishing and trout farms; quiet country walks with historic houses to view.
Those following more active pursuits can sail, canoe or windsurf at the Mepal Outdoor Centre or play golf at two excellent courses at March or Ramsey. Newmarket and Brampton provide a good day at the races throughout the year. There is also a local horseriding school nearby.
There is marvellous bird watching at Welney and Purls Bridge all year round, but especially in winter when the fens are flooded and the largest concentration of swans arrive in England.

The Cross Keys is a pleasant Fenland town, set between the two cathedral cities of Ely and Peterborough, surrounded by rich farm land which is known as the Coven Garden of England.
Dick Turpin, Samuel Pepys and Oliver Cromwell are all reputed to have to have passed through Chatteries, it is possible they may have stayed at the Cross Keys.

Built in around 1540 in the reign of Elizabeth 1st, the Cross keys is said to be the finest building of its time left in the area. It still holds many features of that era, one of which are the two open fire places in which during the winter months, log fires crackle to welcome the traveller.
