Nestled in the heart of Cornwall in the charming village of Ladock near Truro lies Bissick Old Mill, a small, luxury guesthouse. Dating from the 17th century, Bissick Old Mill remained a working corn mill right up to the late 1960's and has since been sympathetically renovated to maintain its character and charm whilst also providing all modern comforts. We offer a relaxing, comfortable stay in a central location ideal for exploring the whole of Cornwall.
Accommodation is offered in the form of three double en-suite bedrooms in the mill itself and a charming upside down suite in the Granary just across the courtyard.
Guests can take advantage of the delightful beamed sitting room with its natural cornish stone fireplace and squashy sofas. Relax with a book or magazine or simply sit and unwind after a long days sightseeing before heading off to sample some of the local ales and fare on offer at the nearby inns and restaurants.
Log fires are lit at the weekend (or upon request) in the winter and a selection of OS maps, DVDs, videos and books (including a number of volumes about Cornwall) and CD's are available for guests to borrow during their stay.
Breakfast is served in the Mill dining room.
There is ample parking for guests cars even at the busiest times. |
About us
Here at Bissick Old Mill our aim is to make your stay, whether for business or pleasure, long stay or short, as pleasant and as memorable as possible.
We believe it is the little things that count, from the bottle of Cornish mineral water, fresh fruit and flowers in your room to the late check out facility or luggage storage while you make the most of your last day with us.
Log fires are lit at the weekend (or upon request) in the winter and a selection of OS maps, DVDs, videos and books (including numerous volumes on Cornwall) and CD's are available for guests to borrow during their stay. We also showcase artwork by local artists, some of which can be purchased as a souvenir of your stay. Breakfast at the Mill is a serious affair and our menu is extensive. Whether you choose to eat in the slate flagged dining room or in the courtyard just through the french doors, either is a lovely setting for that all important first meal of the day. On Sunday mornings you can hear the church bells ringing from nearby St Ladoca's.
Choose from a wide range of hot and cold dishes from a full cornish (or full veggie) breakfast to homemade muesli or from organic yoghurt to a fluffy omelette all of which is accompanied by local breads, homemade banana nut bread or warm croissants with locally made jams or chunky marmalade. Needless to add that we use the freshest, locally sourced produce, organic where possible. Add a cafetiere of coffee or a pot of English Breakfast and you have the perfect start to your day! |

Location
" One of the early routes into West Cornwall passed through the beautiful wooded Ladock Valley, and the road was surfaced with Cornish greenstone in the last century. Ladock's almouth Arms was one of a series of coaching inns along the way, where horses could be changed. Local folk who could afford a shilling, could take the "Inkerman" van to Truro on market day. The rather uncomfortable seven mile journey took two hours each way."
"Ladock is perfectly situated for visiting the whole of Cornwall, being within easy reach of the magnificent Eden Project, and many beautiful gardens including Trelissick and the Lost Gardens of Heligan." There are some lovely walks to take in and around the village of Ladock itself (feel free to borrow our OS maps). Visit our charming local church which dates from the Norman times and which boasts a beautiful William Morris stained glass window.
For evening meals, there is a popular pub within a few yards where you can sample Cornwalls fine ales and there's an excellent selection of pubs and restaurants in nearby villages, the cathedral city of Truro is a mere 7 miles away. To show how central we are here are some distances to local towns / beaches (by road as unlike some other properties and estate agents we know you don't have wings):
