The Bay Horse Inn is situated in the village of West Woodburn, Northumberland, a delightful 18th century coaching inn, built in mellowed sandstone, nestling by a stone bridge over the River Rede. Our accommodation is on the main A68 Corbridge to Edinburgh route, in the heart of the Cheviot Hills, an ideal base for touring, cycling and as we are next to the Pennine Way - walking. We are also able to arrange local activities fishing, horse riding, quad bike safaris and clay target shooting.There is good parking here at the inn, including space for coaches by appointment. We offer bed and breakfast and of course longer stay facilities in our en-suite accommodation which has English Tourist Council Four Diamond rating, with TV and tea/coffee making facilities in every room. The Bay Horse menus offer good pub food in an unusually wide and extensive range of dishes carefully prepared from the best local produce. Choose from a tasty snack in our comfortable bar or dine in style in our restaurant with a fine bottle of wine. The surrounding Northumberland countryside is steeped in history with Medieval Castles, Roman remains, fortified country houses and of course glorious beaches of the Northumberland heritage coast. |
| Bedrooms When you have been out and about in the fresh country air and when the excellent home cooked cuisine and cosy surroundings of our lounge bar all begin to take effect - retire to one of our 5 bedrooms.  All are en-suite decorated individually in a delightful cottage style. All have colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryers, ironing facilities and a trouser press.
We have a special room which is ideal for honeymooners or for that special treat for any couple. Sample the luxury of our four poster bedroom - beautifully decorated and comfortable. | Food If you are just passing through ...... we can offer you meals in our comfortable lounge bar, or our beautifully furnished restaurant. A table for two, a family table or wedding parties up to 30. Whichever you prefer we are sure you will be more than delighted with what we have on offer to tempt your palate. Our chef uses the very best local meats, seasonal Northumberland fresh vegetables, special sauces using wine and spirits - giving the choice of both good country fare and more exotic specialities, using unique blended herbs and spices. We have daily special vegetarian dishes and with a little notice our chef will be more than pleased to prepare your favourite dish. If you are staying a while you will not tire of our menu as we change it constantly with traditional specialities, such as mince & dumplings, fresh farm organic roast meats, beautiful tender steaks and a selection of fresh sea foods from the nearby Northumberland coast. For example our speciality is the Traditional Lamb Feast 3 succulent lamb chops served with specially made Rosemary & lamb sausages, with the lamb as sweet as any you will ever have tasted coming from our own Northumberland hills. |
| Out and About The area around West Woodburn is of great natural beauty and stunning scenery now a location of peace and tranquility which belies the history of Northumberland's violent and turbulent past. The inn being located in the heart of Redesdale you will never tire of the views around the Bay Horse a gentle stroll before lunch perhaps then relax afterwards. Should you require a little more, within a 15 - 20 minute drive we can easily arrange the following for you: Clay Target shooting with Otterburn Sporting Clays - Shooting is carefully arranged so that you have an enjoyable time with safety naturally of the utmost importance. Quad Bike Safari - Drive a 4 x 4 motor bike around a hill farm exploring the rugged countryside. Courtesy of Woolaw Farm. Pony Trekking and riding lessons - At Redesdale Riding Centre. Otterburn Mill - Beautiful garments made from quality fabrics, the famous Otterburn Mill rugs, skirt fabrics & many more things to buy from Lindisfarne Mede to local chocolates & toffees. Fishing can also be arranged on various stretches of the River Rede subject to time of year, licenses etc.Golf is also available at nearby Bellingham golf course. Travel a little further afield and you will find numerous venues to visit including Castles, Country Houses, beautiful beaches and many many more places of interest. |
