The age of elegance is not past; it still lives on at this lovely old manor house where two generations of the Varley family have created a special atmosphere of warmth and comfort. Once the distinguished residence of the descendants of William Marshall, the Earl of Pembroke, founder of historic 12th century Cartmel Priory, Aynsome still echo's with the character and traditions of that bygone era. Located between fells and sea in the still untouched Vale of Cartmel and with views southwards to the Norman Priory, meadowlands and woods, Aynsome Manor represents an ideal centre from which to explore the richness of the English Lanes or the hidden delights of the nearby coastline with its fascinating estuaries and inlets. Newby Bridge at the southern tip of Lake Windermere is just 4 miles away, whilst the genteel Edwardian resort of Grange-over-Sands is only 3 miles. |
The Lake District National Park is a world heritage site, developed for those who appreciate the pleasures of the countryside. For the guests who wishes to relax the area is blessed with quiet woodland walks, unique locations for the artist, naturalist and photographer with scenic routes for the motorist seeking something different. What better way to reward a full day's exploration than with a five-course dinner superbly prepared from fresh local produce. With delicious home made soups, biscuits and bread rolls served in our candlelit Georgian dining room. Our main courses and sumptuous sweets are guaranteed to tempt even the most determined slimmer. Our cellars offer an interesting and wide ranging selection of more than 90 wines. |
The main house has 10 comfortable bedrooms mainly built around a courtyard and covering two floors, all have private bathroom, colour television, telephone and tea and coffee facilities. A cosy well stocked bar and charming lounge with log fires and peaceful views of the valley are available for your relaxation. Aynsome Cottage lies a few short paces across the flagged courtyard and was converted from a 16th century stone built stable with one double and one twin room both with their own private facilities. There is also a comfortably furnished lounge. |

| How to find us Leave M6 motorway at junction 36 and take the A590 to Barrow-in-Furness. At the top of the long steep hill, where the dual carriageway finishes at Lindale, take the left turn towards Cartmel, (3 miles) Aynsome lies on the right approximately 20 minutes from the motorway. |
