The Hotel
Arundel House Hotel is beautifully located overlooking the river Cam and open parkland. It is only a short walk across the park, known as Jesus Green, to the city centre and the wealth of fascinating architecture for which Cambridge is famous.
The hotel, which is privately owned, has been formed from a terrace of particularly fine late nineteenth century Victorian houses. The facade and elegantly proportioned interiors have been carefully preserved while still allowing the hotel to offer all the modern services which discerning travellers now demand.
All of the hotel's 103 bedrooms have private facilities en suite, with either a bath, a shower or bath and shower, a handbasin and W.C. All rooms also have tea and coffee making facilities, television, radio, hairdryer and a direct dial telephone with an automatic wake up alarm facility.
Security is also a priority, so bedroom corridors are accessible only to hotel guests and we have installed electronicproximity door locks throughout the hotel. We were the first hotel in the UK to install this type of sophisticated Legic locking system. A programme to install irons, ironing boards and electronic room safes in all bedrooms has also been started.
The hotel is open throughout the year and forms an ideal base from which to explore all the numerous places of interest in and around the city. For guests travelling by car, the hotel has a large car park. |

Bar
The hotel is well known for the friendly welcoming and relaxed atmosphere of its bar, restaurant and conservatory.
The use of bright cheerful colours in the bar, coupled with beautiful chintz curtains, comfortable sofas and armchairs, sumptuous carpeting and leather bound books has helped to create a warm refreshing feeling of spring and with two beautiful fireplaces and a magnificent Victorian style bar, beautifully made from solid American red oak, the bar isan area where you can just sit and relax for hours in superb comfort. |

Conservatory
Adjacent to the bar is the hotel's magnificent Victorian style Conservatory Brasserie, which can seat 46 people and offers an informal alternative to the Restaurant. Overlooking our tranquil and secluded garden, it is one of the largest Conservatories in the region, with a wide array of beautiful plants, fresh flowers and an impressive central feature, a ficus benjamina tree, whose branches reach up to the roof.
The Conservatory offers a very green environment and like the Bar and Restaurant it is an area entirely free from smoking, mobile phones and laptops so that you can eat and relax without disturbance.
The Conservatory, which has a very colonial feel, with rattan armchairs, granite topped tables and tropical pinoleum blinds, is open all day from 9.30am to 10.00pm and has its own specially designed menu offering a wide range of different options throughout the day, including delicious traditional teas in the afternoon, with scones, jam and clotted cream.
In the evening the candlelit tables give the Conservatory a different ambience and during the warm summer months there is seating on the patio, in the hotel's charming enclosed garden, providing al fresco dining for a further 36 people. The garden has the sun all day during the summer and despite its city centre location it provides a tranquil area where guests can relax with a cool drink soaking up the sun. |

Restaurant
The restaurant, which is also adjacent to the bar, has achieved a reputation for providing some of the best food in the area in glorious surroundings. All tastes are catered for, thanks to the wide range of imaginative dishes, that feature on its menu, all freshly prepared in the hotel's scrupulously clean, award winning, kitchens. The menu has a mix of table d'hote, à la carte, vegetarian and children's dishes.
The refreshing yellow, orange, gold and green colours, the stylish and relaxing upholstered chairs, with a mixture of roundand square tables, the crisp white and yellow linen and the oak dressers, decorated with eclectic artefacts, all createan air of contemporary elegance and yet the restaurant is not expensive, hence its popularity with local residents and hotel guests alike.
Although the restaurant can seat 85 people, it is divided into three separate areas, thereby creating a moreintimate atmosphere.
One section of the restaurant can be closed off for special events such as weddings, anniversary celebrations, birthdays, private dinner parties, business luncheons etc. The hotel has established an excellent reputation for hosting these special occasions and ensures that all memorable, once only, family and business events are always extra special. |

The Coach House
The Coach House, which is situated behind the main hotel building, has a romantic association with Cambridge's historic past, as it once housed the horses and carriages of one of Cambridge's early fee paying transport companies. The facade of the building has been preserved but its interior has been completely rebuilt to provide not only the hotel's 3 conference rooms but also 22 spacious bedrooms with private bathrooms en suite, many of which overlook the tranquil AlexandraGardens.
The conference rooms, the Alexandra Room, the Tindale room and the Carlyle room are adjacent to each other with their own entrance hall and cloakrooms. |

Cambridge historic and Beautiful
Cambridge is frequently described as one of the loveliest cities in Britain. Visitors will remember with great affection itsmagnificent courtyards, graceful bridges and the beautiful views along the 'Backs' by the River Cam. The evolution of thecolleges, starting from Peterhouse founded in 1284 to Robinson College the most recent in 1974, provides seven hundredyears of fascinating history and some truly glorious architecture.
The oldest colleges and university buildings, which are situated in the central area of the city, are all within walking distance of each other and are only a short walk across Jesus Green from the Hotel. Visitors can enter the college courtyards, chapels and certain gardens at most times, (except during examinations).
King's College, which is perhaps the most well known of the Cambridge colleges and its famous Chapel, are best viewed from the river or the 'Backs' - the landscaped area through which the river meanders to the west of the college buildings.
A punt on the river provides a traditional way of enjoying the many splendours of the Colleges. 'Poling' a punt is easilymastered and provides fun for the inexperienced and exhilaration for the skilled. Chauffered punts are available for those who prefer to sit in comfort and enjoy the beautiful
sights. The old Market Square is the focal point of the City's ancient streets with fine old buildings and attractive small shops and stores. The Lion Yard modern shopping complex and the Grafton Shopping Centre nearby, blend well with the historic surroundings and contain a far greater variety of large and small shops, including far more of the major chain stores than is normally expected in a provincial City. A good selection of restaurants, coffee houses, pubs and wine bars scattered around the city centre provide places to enjoy a break from shopping and sightseeing.
Cambridge is not just a museum of ancient buildings, as it is now recognised as one of the main centres of advancedtechnology based on the research carried out at the University. The city is ringed by science and technology parks, many with modern buildings which are themselves worth seeing for the contrast with the elegance of the older college buildings.
Cambridge is at the heart of East Anglia and is an excellent base from which to explore this delightful part of England. In the vicinity are three stately homes, Wimpole Hall, Anglesey Abbey and Audley End, which are open to the public each summer, the American Cemetary, a splendid monument to American forces from World War II, the Duxford Aircraft Museum, magnificent cathedrals at Ely and Peterborough, numerous historic towns, the Norfolk Broads, beautiful old villages and a wealth of other places of interest, including an ancient flint mine, a bird sanctuary and other attractions too numerous to list here. Our Reception will be happy to give advice on sightseeing and can provide maps, guides and leaflets on most of the local places of interest. Official tours by registered guides can also be arranged. For more information, including tariff, menus and map, why not visit: www.arundelhousehotels.co.uk |
