Built by the Duke of Devonshire around 1840, Aldingham House is located in a Conservation Area just above the banks of the picturesque River Eden on the edge of the city. We are the nearest accommodation to the Hadrian's Wall Trail Path, the Castle and the Sands Centre, and only minutes from the City centre with its cathedral, excellent shops and restaurants. For year round short breaks, walking Hadrian's Wall or a business stop-over, we warmly welcome you into an environment where you can relax in a truly delightful setting with an informal atmosphere that feels like home from home. |
![]() | We have 3 ensuite bedrooms all individually designed with style and comfort in mind. All vary in size and character, complete with original window shutters, and some with feature bathrooms but all with the cosiness of home. Comfy beds with cosy cotton sheets and soft pillows provide a restful haven for weary travellers or after a long day's work. Rooms have colour television, radio, hairdryer. Complimentary fresh fruit, biscuits, sweets and mineral water are also provided, together with fax and email facilities and a Broadband Internet service on request. Our large ensuite bathrooms are an oasis of luxury, with fluffy towels, marble topped sinks, refreshing showers and long hot relaxing baths. Finished off with cotton balls and buds, and Gilchrist and Soames luxury toiletries. A daily newspaper is delivered before breakfast. |

![]() | Breakfast is served at your table in our light and airy dining room with its crystal chandelier, original marble fireplace and tall elegant Georgian windows. Breakfasts are prepared freshly to order and we have something for everyone from an energising smoothie to a traditional Aga-cooked 'Full English' breakfast, complemented by porridge, toast, pancakes, home-made jams and preserves, fresh juice and steaming coffee or tea. If you would like dinner, Number 10 Restaurant is less than 100 metres from ourselves and is the only Carlisle restaurant listed in the Good Food Guide, the mood is relaxing and the food is served in a friendly, informal atmosphere where nothing is too much trouble. We are pleased to cater for all diets including vegetarian or gluten free, wheat or dairy free. Packed lunches are also provided by arrangement. |
| North of the River Eden, Aldingham House is the closest accommodation to Hadrian's Wall Trail and the city centre. Carlisle's historic city centre is only a 10 minute stroll, over the Eden Bridge and through the delightful Bitts park, where you will find Carlisle Castle, Tullie House, the Cathedral, the Lanes Shopping Centre, and numerous restaurants. |
