Sixteen miles south-east of London lies the town of Dartford. This town is the principle town in Dartford Borough which is located in the county of Kent. This ancient town dates back to prehistoric times. It is estimated that people have been living in this area for around 250,000 years. Not only have archeologists found evidence of these hunter-gatherers but residents from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age as well. While the town is historic in nature, there are not only many things to see in the town itself there are many things in the surrounding area to enjoy as well.

As many theatre aficionados will attest, sometimes visiting a town is dependent on what kind of theatre is there. Dartford has a great place for visitors to enjoy. The Orchard theatre, which is located in the center of town, is a great place to take in some plays. You can find a wide variety of entertainment here. Performances are not just limited to plays; you can also find dance and music entertainment here as well.

The Mick Jagger Center, located on the grounds of Dartford Grammar School, is a great place to take in a different kind of art. The building was completed in 2000 and is home to a variety of community arts from not just Dartford but the entire area. It's something to check out during your stay.

The Bromley Museum is located only about six miles outside of Dartford. This museum is located in the Orpington Prior and is considered an extremely important historic building. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of temporary exhibits that change throughout the year as well as a number of permanent exhibits. These permanent exhibits tell the story of the history of the local area. There are many things for everyone young and old to enjoy. The best part about the Bromley Museum is its completely free. Even if you are vacationing on a budget there is no reason why you should pass up this historic museum.

Also located just a few miles outside of Dartford is Lullingston Castle. This historic home and Church was a frequent stop of Henry VIII and Queen Anne. Visitors can see many of the fine state rooms that were used and view excellent portraits and well preserved armor from that time period. The gatehouse is one of the earliest Tudor Gatehouses to be built entirely of brick. The Church on the ground is of Norman origins and is home to some of the oldest stained glass windows in England. Also a pleasant sight is the World Gardens that occupy the grounds. This garden was constructed in 2005 and has nearly 8,000 plant species on its small two acres of land. The plants are laid out as continents of the world and each plant is in its respective country. It truly is a breath taking sight to see.
