The small market town of Chipping Campden has roots tracing its history back to the 14th century. In the Middle Ages this town enjoyed the patronage of wealthy wool merchants and set itself up as a rich wool trading center in the Gloucestershire area. Today it is home to many beautiful and rare attractions.

One of the most interesting attractions is St. James Church. Originally built in 1180 the older building was much smaller than the one that now sits on the site. Rebuilt in the 1400s this church sports many medieval architectural pieces. One of the most interesting pieces is the great window that is located over the chancel arch; this allows light for the nave and is a rare feature in church architecture. The Alter Frontals were copied for the High Altar of Westminster Abby for the coronation ceremony of Queen Mary in 1912. Today they are preserved for viewing behind glass along with the cope. This ancient church is a must stop on any one's list.

For the nature lover the Chipping Campden area is home to many beautiful gardens. The Campden House garden located in Chipping Campden is located on 2 acres of land. With a mix of pants and colors around the house and barn it is a serene site to behold. Visitors can tour the garden, a woodland walk and the vegetable gardens by traveling the gravel paths. There are a couple of steep slopes that visitors should be aware of. At this time, however, visitors can view the 17th century house and barn from the outside but neither is open to the public.

Visitors to Chipping Campden during the month of May can enjoy the Campden Music Festival. Held at St. James' Church this festival offers visitors a variety of music and artists to enjoy. Thanks to the wide array of shopping and eateries nearby, you can enjoy a nice meal and then simply walk up to the church in time for the concert of your choice. It makes for a lovely evening out during your stay.

For those interested in some sport be sure to visit Dover's Hill, located near Chipping Campden. In late May or Early June Dover's Hill hosts the Cotswold Olympic Games. These games offer a variety of sports including the sport of shin-kicking. At the end of the games there is a fireworks display and a bonfire. They then have a torch-lit procession back to town and then there is dancing in the square.

Chipping Campden has wonderful architecture, beautiful natural sceneries and some fun festivals for locals and visitors to enjoy.
