The market town of Bishop's Castle is located in Shropshire England. Although the town only has a population of around 1630 people it is still considered a tourist hot spot. The town was built during the late 1000s. At this time the castle was built. It soon became home to two breweries and a market place. There are many different landmarks that are of interest to visitors during their stay here.

Unfortunately the castle doesn't still exist but you can see the 10 meter long wall that still remains. But you can walk up to it and see the 2 to 3 meter thick course wall that would have encircled the castle. It is often a stop that most visitors want to see.

If you want to learn about the town then go over to the House on Crutches Museum. This wonderful little museum shows visitors what the town was like. Many of the collection has been donated to the museum by the locals. This way you can see how the town was since it got its market charter in 1128. Tour the four main display rooms in the 15th century building. It is not the best building for visitors with mobility difficulties. Many of the stewards are locals and volunteers and have interesting stories to regale on their guests.

If you are interested in the railway history then go to the Bishops Castle Rail and Transport Museum. Here you will learn the history of the town's railway system that ran from Craven Arms. It has since closed in 1935 but there is lots to see and learn while you are there.

Of course there are two different micro breweries for you to visit. The Three Tuns Brewery is one of those breweries. This is the oldest brewery in Bishops castle, part of the brewery dates back to the 17th century while the newer part is from the 19thy century. The building features a miniature Victorian tower with a gravity process that is still used to produce traditional beers. Visitors can tour this facility by appointment only. Please note that if you are unable to handle steep staircases then you should not visit this site.

If you are just looking for a fun time out then head over to the Three Tuns Inn. Ever two weeks the Bishop's Castle Film Society shows a different movie. You can grab a meal and a drink prior to the start of the show. It's a great way to spend an evening.
