Banff is not only a sea port but it enjoys the honor of being a royal burgh as well. It used to be a part of the Scottish county of Banffshire but now transferred to Aberdeenshire. The River Deveron runs along the town and the sightseeing of the river is a pleasure in its own right.
The town once had a splendid castle, Banff Castle, which was specifically built to guard the town from Vikings and later it became a royal residence. Today some of the walls of this castle can be of some interest for many history buffs. The castle that distinguishably stands now days is built in the mid eighteenth century by Lord Deskford.
The town is full of architectural examples from 1600s but more charming are the sights of resort town which is 18th Century architecture. Banff Museum is one place where you can collect information about all the little bits of the local history. Special local geological items are placed systematically in the museum to attract the visitors.
The Duff House is known to be the most famous attraction in Banff which is a delicate historic mansion. It now acts as an art gallery and hosts many master pieces from the compilation of the Scottish National Gallery.
Banff doesn't have a commercial port, but the harbor still acts as an attraction place where tourists gather to see the spectacular sights. Fishing boats are also available which are most used by the locals but can be hired by the interested visitors.
