Located in the county of Gwynedd in northern Wales is the village of Llanberis. The village originally started out in the slate quarrying industry. The quarries have since closed but thanks to a heavy tourist trade the town has found a new niche. There are many things for the visitors to enjoy during their stay.
The Dolbadarn Castle ruins are the first place many visitors head to. Built in the 1200s the castle sits on the hillock of the Llyn Pardarn. The castle was built as a guard port at the valley of Nant Peris. The Tower that still remains today is 40 feet tall but was originally three stories high. The tower and a portion of the wall still remain today. Unlike most castles when you enter the castle you will not enter on the ground floor but the first storey. The ground flooring has gone but you can still climb the stairs up the tower. Visitors can enjoy not just the interesting remains of the castle but the picturesque beauty.
Hikers and mountain climbers can enjoy the challenge of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. The village of Llanberis is located at the base of the mountain so it makes for an excellent base camp for those who are interested in enjoying the mountain. Not only can you climb or hike the mountain but you can enjoy one of the easiest walking paths to the summit.
Not into physical exertion to get to the top of the beautiful mountain, simply take the Snowdon Mountain Railway. This train will you all the way to the top of the mountain. Once at the top you can enjoy the wonderful views.
After you have seen the views of the mountain top, you can enjoy the other outdoor activities. If you enjoy scuba diving then head over to the Vivian diving center. Here you can enjoy not only diving but there are many other water sports for you to enjoy while you visit the diving center.
If you are into cycling, don't worry there is plenty of paths for you to enjoy. Don't want to cycle, then why not ride a pony around the area on a pony trek.
Llanberis is full of picturesque views and outdoor activities for you and your family to enjoy.
